In 2014, I created an illustration of the Raleigh BMX I had as a kid. It created so much nostalgia for me, that I ended up illustrating more bikes over the next few years for fun. During lockdown, when things were quieter at work, I shared them with a friend, who suggested I turn them into a book (thanks for the idea, Dave). At first, I laughed it off, it was a daunting thought (there were about 70 bikes!). But it planted a seed, why not give it a go?
After years of research and some invaluable help from Raleigh BMX enthusiasts on Facebook, I finally created the book. I reached out to Raleigh Bikes, and while they loved it, they weren’t sure what to do with it at the time.
Fast forward to 2022—Raleigh reached out to me, asking if they could use the book to help launch their new 40th Anniversary Edition of the Tuff Burner, the very bike I had growing up. It’s hands down the project I’m most proud of. What started as a passion project became something real, and it’s a great example of how a passion can evolve into something bigger than you ever imagined.
